When our representatives are making important
decisions that impact all of our lives I believe it is important to ask
one basic question before making
those decisions, Is this good for
the children? Just imagine what our world would be
like if that question was asked prior to making decisions about going to
war, the environment, education or healthcare.

1. Commentary by Elaine B. Holtz.
I have a special guest s this
morning, joining me in the
studio is Tina Rogers, is an
educator, performer, and
researcher. We will be talking
about Black History Month, its
importance and talk about women
of color who made history.
Tina was
instrumental as part of the
planning committee for the
Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday
celebration on Zoom this year.
The
main speaker was Donzaleigh
Abernathy, daughter of civil
rights leader, Ralph Abernathy
whose family was close to Dr.
King, who was her Godfather, and
we will be listening to part of
that speech and discussing some
of the things that were said.
Her full presentation can be
seen on the video of that event
by clicking here for its
facebook page.
I would like to comment on
Whoopi Goldberg's remark that
The Holocaust was not about race
but about man's inhumanity to
man. She got a lot of flack for
that remark. It is true that
under the legal definition of
Hitler's laws that the Jews were
considered a race inferior to
his touted Aryan Race. Whoopi
did apologize, and was clear in
mentioning the Nazi definition
of race, but in essence she was
right, that the genocide of
6-million Jews, along with many
other castigated groups like
Romani, Slavs, Blacks and
homosexuals, was a sign of man's
inhumanity to man and should
have been a wake-up call 80
years ago. However, we have seen
such genocides happen since,
like in Rwanda and in Bosnia,
and we have the history of our
own country bathed in the blood
of Native Americans and Black
Americans before that. Instead
of suspending Whoopi, CBS should
have welcomed the conversation
on the topic.
2.
Our guest
Tina Rogers talks about
the
Martin
Luther King, Jr., Birthday
celebration committee arranging
for Donzaleigh Abernathy to
speak at their annual event,
this year an online event.
Donzaleigh is an accomplished
actor, but this is her soul
mission work for her Godfather
Martin, and she made the time
not only this year but also in
previous years.
After
the recording of Donzaleigh is
finished, Tina talks about the
life of Congresswoman Shirley
Chisolm and her bid for the U.S.
Presidency in 1972. Shirley was
the first African American to be
elected to the US Congress and
the first to campaign for the
President's office. Her ability
to speak Spanish endeared her to
many Latinos, as well as to
Black and Feminist voters. She
was not a quitter and persisted
in being a Progressive Voice
until her death on January 1,
2015.
- report by Ken Norton, Co-Producer, Women's Spaces
About our Guest:
Tina Rogers is a native
of Sonoma County and has devoted
her life in trying to understand
this beautiful planet, the
humans and the other species
that share our world. A true
humanitarian is what she
represents, thorough research,
education, and communication
with other cultures allows her
to see the "big picture." While
attending UC Davis, she turned
her passion for the arts,
fitness, and wellness into a
popular example of master
teaching not only to children
but people of all ages. Tina is
a role model who enjoys using
arts education and fitness, as
tools to “crack-the-code” in
child development that lasts a
lifetime. She is also a member
of the MLK Planning Committee
since 2018.
Shirley Anita Chisholm
(née St. Hill); November 30,
1924 – January 1, 2005) was an
American politician, educator,
and author.[1] In 1968, she
became the first
African-American woman elected
to the United States
Congress.[2] Chisholm
represented New York's 12th
congressional district, a
district centered on
Bedford–Stuyvesant,[a] for seven
terms from 1969 to 1983. In
1972, she became the first
African American candidate for a
major-party nomination for
President of the United States,
and the first woman to run for
the Democratic Party's
nomination. - from
