When our representatives are making important
decisions that impact all of our lives I believe it is important to ask
one basic question before making
those decisions, Is this good for
the children? Just imagine what our world would be
like if that question was asked prior to making decisions about going to
war, the environment, education or healthcare.

1. Commentary by Elaine B. Holtz.
This is the last show of the
month and time for reciting the
Women's Spaces Pledge together.
Tomorrow begins the Lunar New
Year of the Tiger and our first
guest via telephone is Nancy
Wang, who will describe how her
family observes traditional
Chinese festivities at this time
of the year. Long time Sonoma
County activist Susan Lamont
will then come on via telephone
to share her observations of the
effectiveness of Sonoma County's
IOLERO after the enactment of
Measure P.
----
2.
Our first guest
Nancy Wang shares the
history and mission of the
Redwood Empire Chinese
Association (RECA of offering
Chinese culture and language
classes for children, helping
emigrees, and visiting senior
homes. Events are open to the
public. Unfortunately, the
pandemic has for the second year
caused RECA not to hold its
colorful annual Lunar New Year's
Celebration and Buffet at a
physical venue. Nancy
describes the meaning of this
year of the Tiger with a
personal touch. Nancy is
especially happy that her
college boys will be coming home
for the Lunar New Year to
celebrate the tradition.
- report by Ken Norton, Co-Producer, Women's Spaces
About our Guest:
Nancy Wang is Chinese
American, who was born in
Taiwan. She attended junior
college in Japan and settled in
California with her husband in
1977. She has been part of
Redwood Empire Chinese
Association (RECA) since it
began in a garage in 1988 with
the goal of teaching children
Chinese culture and language.
Nancy has been involved in many
organizations and committees and
has served on the Santa Rosa's
City Council Advisory Committee
(CAB) for 15 years, plus many
other associated civic
committees.
She has been honored with
various awards from city, state,
federal government both
personally and on behalf of the
Redwood Chinese Assoc.
She is the mother of three
children and six grandchildren.
She is excited that her oldest
grandson has started college and
soon will begin a new generation
to join RECA.
3.
Our second guest
Susan Lamont shares her
observations of the Independent
Office of Law Enforcement Review
and Outreach (IOLERO), its
history of being formed as a
result of the sustained public
protests of the killing of
13-year-old Andy Lopez by
Sheriff Deputy Eric Gelhaus, and
the recent process of hiring its
new director, and the importance
of transparency. Susan notes how
input from the Citizen's
Advisory Council (CAC) of IOLERO
has been ignored, though it was
a vital part of it founding
review process for oversight of
the Sheriff's Office.
- report by Ken Norton, Co-Producer, Women's Spaces
