Before Deciding

When our representatives are making important decisions that impact all of our lives I believe it is important to ask one basic question before making
those decisions,
Is this good for
the children?

Just imagine what our world would be like if that question was asked prior to making decisions about going to war, the environment, education or healthcare.

2. Our second guest, Zakiya Hooker - photo by Zak Calgary Alberta CanadaZakiya Hooker, will make a special appearance at the Sonoma County Juneteenth and MLK Celebration on Saturday, June 19th, and joins us today to share a bit about her life as an accomplished Blues Singer.  Zakiya attributes her rhythm to that of her father, the legendary Blues singer John Lee Hooker, who gave her first guitar at age 13. He told her "To keep it real, be true to yourself." She made her debut at age 40 with her father onstage. She describes how tense she felt walking up to that stage, but she was determined. Zakiya describes the mission and work of the John Lee Hooker Foundation, established in 2001 by Hooker Family Estate for underprivileged and at-risk youth.

About our Guest: Zakiya Hooker is the daughter of the legendary Blues artist John Lee Hooker and is considered his living legacy with her songs and singing, carrying her father's seminal blues torch confidently into the future.  Zakiya will take you in and out of songs like "Hey Lady", "Baby You Busted", "New Orleans Rain", "Protect Me from The Blues", "Crossroads", "Stones In My Passway" and many more to entertain you.
Zakiya has been the recipient of numerous awards in her career. She has received awards from numerous Blues Societies in and out of California for her innovative style of music. She has been on the cover of several well-known trade magazines including Billboard Magazine. Zakiya's voice can also be heard on advertisements for LEXUS and AIWA, and on the soundtrack of the movie Chalk, which has won the Camera d'Or at Cannes and Grand Prize at the Sundance Film Festival in San Francisco.
Zakiya and her band can perform for you and your masses at: Blues Society Events, Casinos, Celebrations, Christmas Parties, Clubs, Community Events, Conventions, Corporate Functions, Country Clubs, Cruise Ships, Dinner Dances, Fairs, Festivals, Fund Raisers, Grand Openings, Hotels, Jingles, Movie Soundtracks, Picnics, Private Parties, Resorts, Restaurants, Reunions, Studio Sessions, TV Soundtracks and more.
