one basic question before making
those decisions, Is this good for
the children? Just imagine what our world would be
like if that question was asked prior to making decisions about going to
war, the environment, education or healthcare.

Commentary
by our host Elaine B. Holtz: Today, Monday,
The Sunrise Youth complete their 266-mile march from
Paradise to Pacific Heights in San Francisco with
rallies before the houses of the Speaker of the House
Nancy Pelosi and Senator Diane Feinstein for meaningful
legislation to enact the New Green Deal. Also June 14th
is Flag Day and Elaine gives a little history lesson on
its origin.
1. Our
first guest, Nancy Rogers, talks about the 51
years of celebrating the Juneteenth Festival in Sonoma
County and announces the 51st MLK/Juneteenth Community
Festival Celebration on Saturday from 1 to 3:30 pm, June
19th via Zoom online meeting.
About our Guest:
Nancy Rogers is the chair of the Juneteenth Festival
that has been happening at the MLK Park in South Park
Santa Rosa for the last 50 years. She is a board member
of the black Orem and Black Chamber of Commerce and
Pres. of entrepreneurs of tomorrow a nonprofit
organization that provides scholarships for young people
of color and co-owner, red Rose catering with her
husband Harold Rogers she is a mother and a grandmother
and a great neighbor. We have lived across the street
from one another for over 30 years.
2. Our second
guest,Zakiya
Hooker, will make a special appearance at the Sonoma
County Juneteenth and MLK Celebration on Saturday, June
19th, and joins us today to share a bit about her life
as an accomplished Blues Singer. Zakiya attributes
her rhythm to that of her father, the legendary Blues
singer John Lee Hooker, who gave her first guitar at age
13. He told her "To keep it real, be true to yourself." She made her debut at age 40
with her father onstage. She describes how tense she
felt walking up to that stage, but she was determined.
Zakiya describes the mission and work of the John Lee
Hooker Foundation, established in 2001 by Hooker Family
Estate for underprivileged and at-risk youth.
About our Guest:
Zakiya
Hooker is the daughter of the legendary Blues
artist John Lee Hooker and is considered his living
legacy with her songs and singing, carrying her father's
seminal blues torch confidently into the future.
Zakiya will take you in and out of songs like "Hey
Lady", "Baby You Busted", "New Orleans Rain", "Protect
Me from The Blues", "Crossroads", "Stones In My Passway"
and many more to entertain you.
Zakiya has been the recipient of numerous awards in her
career. She has received awards from numerous Blues
Societies in and out of California for her innovative
style of music. She has been on the cover of several
well-known trade magazines including Billboard Magazine.
Zakiya's voice can also be heard on advertisements for
LEXUS and AIWA, and on the soundtrack of the movie
Chalk, which has won the Camera d'Or at Cannes and Grand
Prize at the Sundance Film Festival in San Francisco.
Zakiya and her band can perform for you and your masses

via Zoom. Guest speakers include Nancy Rogers, Chair of
the MLK/Juneteenth Committee, and Karen Schneider, Dean
of the Library at Sonoma State University, and a member
of the LGBTQIA+ community, who will speak about Pride
Month and women’s activism for that community. There
