When our representatives are making important
decisions that impact all of our lives I believe it is important to ask
one basic question before making
those decisions, Is this good for
the children? Just imagine what our world would be
like if that question was asked prior to making decisions about going to
war, the environment, education or healthcare.

1. Commentary by
our Host, Elaine B. Holtz:
Joining me in the studio is,
Kimberly "Kim" Caldewey who is
one of the leading organizers
for Santa Rosa Protests from May
1 Thru the fifth. The group is
called Community United to
Resist Fascism (CURF).
Also joining me in the studio
this morning is a dear friend
Robin Latham who is also one of
the organizers. We will be
talking about the events that
happened from May 1 through May
5. Amazing events and Intune
with the goal of this show is to
both encourage and inspire folks
to stand up and be heard.
Announcement – Today are two
important events:
May 5 is Cinco De Mayo – I am
happy to announce that there
will be a Cinco De Mayo
celebration in Roseland 650
Sebastopol Road in Santa Rosa,
CA from 4-9pm. There was a
thought of not having the event
because of the fear of ICE
coming in and harassing people
however I heard and a shout out
to her, Council Woman Caroline
Banuelos there was some fear
about having the event because
of that however her committee
decided to go forward. A shout
out to all of those involved for
both their commitment and
courage to have the event.
A side note: In today’s world
having events like Cinco de Mayo
and marches and rallies that
just took place takes courage.
The Powers that want us to be
fearful and retreat. I believe
the other side of fear is faith,
faith in We the People.
Every year, from May 6th to
12th, nurses are recognized for
their service and dedication to
caring for others and improving
the health of patients
nationwide through National
Nurses Week. Throughout the
week, healthcare organizations
celebrate their teams, and
you'll even see nurses featured
on the news. People across the
nation thank the nurses who have
made a difference in their
lives. The 2025 Nurses Week
Theme is: The Power of Nurses™.

Interview of our Guests
Robin Latham and Kim Caldewey:
In the Women's Spaces interview,
host Elaine B. Holtz speaks with
activists Kimberly Caldewey and
Robin Latham about their roles
in organizing a five-day protest
in Santa Rosa, held May 1–5,
under the banner of Community
United to Resist Fascism (CURF).
Holtz opens with appreciation
for recent demonstrations and
highlights the importance of
unity and empowerment. Kim
Caldewey describes her
transition from healthcare work
to activism, rooted in her
belief in healthcare as a human
right. Her work with the Peace
and Justice Center helped spark
the idea of using the space to
mobilize and include the broader
community.
Robin Latham recounts her
politically engaged upbringing
and involvement in movements
like No More Atomics. A
strategic retreat led by
activist Starhawk helped shift
the Peace and Justice Center's
focus toward coalition-building,
which organically gave rise to
CURF, uniting over 46 diverse
groups. Both women emphasize
setting aside personal and
organizational agendas to focus
on collective goals.
In the second half of the
interview, they discuss themes
of privilege, courage, and
solidarity in resisting fascism.
Robin notes increasing public
willingness to challenge fascism
and embrace progressive
policies. Kim highlights the
role of white and cisgender
individuals in acknowledging
privilege and centering
marginalized voices. They
reflect on the coalition's
challenges, including
ideological differences, but
stress the unifying purpose of
anti-fascist action. The protest
included empowering moments,
such as a medical march and a
child singing “You Are My
Sunshine.” The interview ends
with a call to action and an
invitation to community
engagement through local
platforms.
