1. Ariel Kelley owes her acitve interest in the community to the mentoring of  her parents. Ariel is the Acting CEO of Corazón Healdsburg, a bilingual resource center to mentor young Latinos in useful life skills.Corazón means "heart" in Spanish, and Corazón Healdsburg provides a center for belonging and to learning to express oneselves, especially in commissions of the city of Healdsburg, so the Latino Voice is represented at the conference table. Corazón Healdsburg also established the Healdsburg Free Store to provide needed supplies to families affected by the Tubbs Fire in 2017, and again for the Kincaid Fire of 2018.  The Family Center, Casa Corazón, provides assistance to families in financial literacy, legal help including immigration issues, and in housing.

About our Guest: Ariel Kelley is the acting CEO of Corazón Healdsburg, a Healdsburg-based non-profit. Recently recognized as one of North Bay’s top Forty Under 40 notable young professionals, Ariel is also an appointed commissioner for the Sonoma County Planning Commission. An attorney by training, Ariel has both Juris Doctorate and MBA degrees.
Ariel’s work at Corazón is focused on removing barriers to achieving equity and opening pathways to prosperity for low-income families. She is the founder of the Healdsburg Free Store that opened in 2017 after the Tubbs Fire and started the Healdsburg Kinder-2-College Fund, which opens college savings accounts for every kindergarten student in the public schools in Healdsburg and Geyserville. She lives in Healdsburg with her husband and two young kids. Ariel Kelley is running for a seat on the Healdsburg City Council.

July 27, 1891 (1980) – Myrtle Lawrence, sharecropper and labor organizer, worked within biracial Southern Tenant Farmers’ Union from 1936 to 1943, honored on the 1976 Bicentennial Freedom Train Exhibition.

July 28, 1879 (1966) – Lucy Burns, suffragist, formed National Woman’s Party with Alice Paul, picketed the White House for women suffrage and arrested 6 times.

July 29, 1896 (1986) – María Rebecca Latigo de Hernández  was a Mexican-American rights activist. She was born in San Pedro Garza García, Mexico. During the 1930s, she spoke publicly and demonstrated on behalf of Mexican Americans about their education in the United States. She and her husband, Pedro Hernandez Barrera, founded Orden Caballeros de America on January 10, 1929. She organized the Asociación Protectora de Madres in 1933. In 1970 she was active in the Raza Unida Party.

July 30, 1939 – Eleanor Smeal, women’s rights activist, co-founder and president of the Feminist Majority Foundation (1987) and publisher of Ms. Magazine, president of National Organization for Women (1977-1982 and 1985-1987).

August 26 - November 8, 2020, Petaluma’s Participation in the Women’s Suffrage Movement, Petaluma Library and Historical Museum The Petaluma Museum Association’s suffrage exhibit has been rescheduled. This postponement has provided the opportunity to coordinate the exhibit’s opening reception with the national celebration of “Women’s Equality Day”. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, August 26th, 5 to 8 pm! The exhibit will be dedicated to our former Congresswoman, Lynn Woolsey, and our former Mayor, Helen Putnam, and we are delighted to report that Mayor Barrett will be attending the opening to bestow the honors.
