When our representatives are making important
decisions that impact all of our lives I believe it is important to ask
one basic question before making
those decisions, Is this good for
the children? Just imagine what our world would be
like if that question was asked prior to making decisions about going to
war, the environment, education or healthcare.

1.
Susan Jensen shares the concerns and steps her company,
considered essential to stay open during the Shelter-in-Place order,
has taken on protecting her company's six employees and the
customers they visit on plumbing calls. Susan also talks of
the process she went through to procure a Small Business Loan
through her bank and the federal online sites as advised by her
accountant and local bank loan officer. She reports that the company
did not receive any service calls the first three weeks of social
distancing orders, and then, as the need became too great for those
with stopped up sewers or broken pipes, the calls began to come in,
but still business is slow. Economy Plumbing is a member of
GoLocal, which helps with marketing their essential presence in the
community.
About our Guest:
Susan Jensen is co-owner of Economy Plumbing for 20 years
and the company has been serving Sonoma County customers for 40
years. Susan was raised in Sonoma County by her mom Elaine, the host
of this show. Susan is an avid Soccer player and competes around the
state. She lives in Santa Rosa with her husband David, and is the
mother of two children and is also a new grandmother.
2. Janeen Murray discusses
how locally owned businesses arevital for the
local economy, allowing the money paid for goods and services to
recirculate in the community. GoLocal is a
collective of locally owned businesses, and you can see the GoLocal
logo on many of their storefronts. The local business members
are listed in the quarterly print catalog and in the directory of
GoLocal's website, so whenever a county resident needs a
particular service or goods a visit to the website and search will
bring up the possibilities of dealing locally. Many small businesses
are expanding their services to adapt to the virus precautions in
place to include curbside pickups, food carryout, and even
store-to-door delivery.
About our Guest: Janeen Murray started out as a
junior high and high school teacher for several years, then for the
next decade she managed Operations and Marketing at two local
companies. Then spending 10 years as GoLocal's Co-Manager and Board
Member, she now serves as Executive Director. She also manages
Sustaining Technologies, LLC, and both organizations work together
to provide marketing consulting and resources for locally owned
businesses, and to remind the public the importance of going local.
Janeen also serves as a member of the Sonoma County Food System
Alliance and plays accordion in the Hubbub Club street band.
