one basic question before making
those decisions, Is this good for
the children? Just imagine what our world would be
like if that question was asked prior to making decisions about going to
war, the environment, education or healthcare.

shares her path to activism from cleaning the creeks by her home in
Cotati that feed the Laguna to realizing the environmental danger of
a new station on 116 at Stoneypoint to the Laguna, and then to
joining with other concerned citizens in Sonoma County to oppose the
building of any new gasoline stations. The Coalition Opposing New Gas Stations (CONGAS)
held a protest the morning of this broadcast at a proposed new gas
station on Middle Rincon Road at Highway 12. CONGAS does not want
any more fossil fuel infrastructure to be built because of the
increasing impact of Climate Change resulting from fossil fuel use.
About our Guest: Jenny
Blaker spent her childhood in India and before moving to
Cotati twenty four years ago with her husband she lived in England.
She earned her MA degree in Conservation Psychology from SSU’s
"Action for a Viable Future" program. She is active with CONGAS and
other local groups and issues including Sonoma Solidarity with
Standing Rock, and advocating for pedestrian and bicycle safety and

several years Jenny was Outreach Coordinator of a habitat
restoration group, Cotati Creek Critters, whose mission was to
engage the local community in planting native trees and shrubs along
the Laguna de Santa Rosa in Cotati, and encouraging a sense of
environmental stewardship.

opera singer, first African-American member of the New York
Metropolitan Opera (1955).
February 28, 1898 (1992) – Molly Picon, Yiddish
actress, performed around the world beginning with “Baby
Margaret” at age 5, entertained troops in Korea and Japan during
World War II, renowned for her somersaults and flips well into
her seventies, wrote one-woman show, “Hello, Molly” (1979), and
an autobiography, Molly (1980)
Black History Month - Herstory
Daisy Bates was a complex, unconventional
and largely forgotten heroine of the civil rights movement
who led the charge to desegregate the all-white Central High
School in Little Rock, Ark., in 1957.
Dr. Alexa Canady became the first Black
woman neurosurgeon in the U.S. in 1981, according to the
U.S. National Library of Medicine. She helped save thousands
of lives — mostly children, according to Changing the Face
of Medicine — during her 20-year career. Her home state of
Michigan recognized her milestones by inducting her into the
Woman's Hall of Fame in 1989, and she was named Teacher of
the Year by the Children's Hospital of Michigan.
