When our representatives are making important
decisions that impact all of our lives I believe it is important to ask
one basic question before making
those decisions, Is this good for
the children? Just imagine what our world would be
like if that question was asked prior to making decisions about going to
war, the environment, education or healthcare.

1. Commentary by Elaine B. Holtz: I
have a special guest for this
show, joining me on the phone
will be Camerina Schwartz
Davidson, President, Califonria
State Chapter of the National
Organization for Women (NOW).
For me this is an important
interview.
NOW was founded in 1966. NOW’s
purpose is to take action
through intersectional
grassroots activism to promote
feminist ideals, lead societal
change, eliminate
discrimination, and achieve and
protect the equal rights of all
women and girls in all aspects
of social, political, and
economic life.
2. Our
Guest Camerina Schwartz Davidson, emphasizes
the importance of grassroots
organizing to promote feminist
priorities and achieve equity
for women and girls. Her
involvement with the National
Organization for Women (NOW)
began in high school, motivated
by her discontent with the
restrictive and conservative
environment she grew up in. Her
passion was solidified after
attending rallies in Washington,
DC, in 1989 and 1992, and
finding an active NOW chapter
that aligned with her desire for
change.
Davidson has worked in nonprofit
organizations for 15 years as an
entrepreneur and the Director of
Communications for a nonprofit.
She currently collaborates with
a group called We Spark.
Throughout her journey, she has
been inspired by role models
like Gloria Steinem, who
exemplifies leadership by
listening and organizing
effectively.
Davidson stresses the importance
of women coming together and
organizing, drawing confidence
from her background as a
first-generation American.
Growing up, she often had to
navigate between her family's
immigrant perspective and the
American world, taking on
leadership roles early on.
The National Organization for
Women, which Davidson
represents, focuses on six core
issues, including economic
justice, reproductive rights,
and LGBTQIA+ rights. One of its
main goals is the passage of the
Equal Rights Amendment (ERA),
which Davidson believes will
support broader goals like
economic justice and
reproductive rights.
Davidson is particularly excited
about the upcoming California
NOW annual state conference,
which will be held in Sonoma
County, home to the National
Women’s History Alliance. The
conference will feature
workshops on racial justice and
strategies for supporting the
ERA. Additionally, there will be
a tangible art project to
amplify the "Get Out the Vote"
message. Davidson highlights the
significance of grassroots
organizing and encourages
everyone to join NOW to help
create a collective power of
sisterhood.
For more information and to
register for the conference,
visit the NOW website at
canow.org. The event is free,
and everyone is welcome to
participate.
About our Guest: Camerina
Schwartz Davidson
believes in the power of
grassroots organizing to advance
feminist priorities to create
equity for women and girls in
our communities - this was the
single focus that first drew her
to National Organization for
Women (NOW) in high school.
Through the years, her feminist
perspective evolved from
recognizing why we need
intersectional feminism to
understand how facets overlap
and require more equitable
strategies. Now through her
position as President of
California NOW, she works to
build inclusive communities
where all voices are elevated.
Camerina has worked in the
non-profit sector for 15 years,
both as an entrepreneur and as a
leader directing communications
for non-profit organizations.
Her most recent assignment is
with WeSPARK Cancer Support,
where her primary focus is on
communications and outreach to
raise awareness about the
organization.
