When our representatives are making important
decisions that impact all of our lives I believe it is important to ask
one basic question before making
those decisions, Is this good for
the children? Just imagine what our world would be
like if that question was asked prior to making decisions about going to
war, the environment, education or healthcare.

1. Commentary by Elaine B. Holtz:
I have a special guest this
morning, joining me on the pho
will be Rev. Dr. Patricia Keel,
a longtime student of
metaphysics and a spiritual
teacher in the mystical
tradition. Patricia was the
Founding minister of Unity of
Berkeley and is currently a
frequent Guest Minister at Unity
churches.
It's hard to believe that
Christmas is just fifteen days
away and I thought I would have
Rev. Patricia Keel to be on to
look at the Christmas Story and
some different perspective on
this holiday. For me when I
think of Christmas and how it
has been presented over the
years that it was supposed to be
the story of the Prince of Peace
and here, we are in 2023 having
these brutal wars in Gaza and in
the Ukraine..
----
2. Our
Guest, Rev. Dr. Patricia Keel,
transitioned from real estate to
the Unity teachings of Myrtle
and Charles Fillmore, founding
Berkeley's Unity Church. Her
journey into metaphysics
uncovered the Bible's deeper
significance and the limitless
potential of metaphysical
understanding beyond our senses.
Patricia's 17-year Indian study
enriches Western metaphysics,
offering ways to transcend inner
conflicts for true inner peace,
allowing authentic actions
aligned with our genuine selves.
Rev. Keel notes that women
played a key role in the
Christmas story as found in the
gospels of Matthew and Luke.
These writers harkened to the
prophecy of a messiah coming to
rule the world in peace, and it
would be through two women,
Elizabeth and her younger cousin
Mary. First Elizabeth's faith
would be tested like that of
Abraham's wife Sarah, to bear a
child in her old age. Then
Mary's faith was tested as a
virgin to whom the angel Gabriel
announced she would bear the
prophesized messianic son.
Elizabeth would recognize Mary's
standing through the leap of her
child in her womb, a child that
would late be called John the
Baptist. In the midst of the
hard occupying rule of the
Romans and the insensitivity of
the Jewish ruling Sanhedrin to
the suffering of the people,
Jesus was born.
These four weeks of Advent
preceding Christmas is meant to
prepare us for the individual
revelation of this Peace within
us and share with the world. The
winter solstice at this time of
year is also a time of hope for
warmer days of more light.
Rev. Keel helps us recognize the
bible characters in us as
metaphysical principles in their
action. She emphasizes how
important it is for us to enter
the stillness within and slowing
down our breaths to enter a
feeling of sacred space to be
open to the intuitive
announcements in the creative
process of incarnation.
About our Guest:
Rev. Dr.
Patricia Keel is a
longtime student of metaphysics
and a spiritual teacher
combining western metaphysics
with eastern mysticism. She
believes that every woman
carries within her the wisdom,
insight, and inner strength to
overcome challenges and create
miracles in the world. Her work
as a teacher, coach, speaker,
and trainer spans over 30 years
with diverse groups from all
cultures, faiths, and
traditions.
Patricia was the Founding
minister of Unity of Berkeley
and is currently a frequent
Guest Minister at Unity
churches. Her study in India
over the past 17 years brings a
unique depth to her work as East
meets Western spirituality.

Herstory Events:
December 10, 1948. On
December 10th every year, we
celebrate Humans Rights Day.
Human Rights Day is observed by
the international community
every year on 10 December. It
commemorates the day in 1948 the
United Nations General Assembly
adopted the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights.
In 2023, we commemorate the 75th
anniversary of the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights,
which coincides with the 30th
anniversary of the Office of the
High Commissioner for Human
Rights. For 75 years, the core
ambition of the Declaration has
been to infuse societies with
equality, fundamental freedoms,
and justice. The Declaration
sets out, for the first time,
fundamental human rights to be
universally protected. Available
in more than 500 languages.
December 10, 1869 – Wyoming is
the first territory to give
women the right to vote.
December 14, 1961 – President’s
Commission on the Status of
Women is established to examine
discrimination against women and
ways to eliminate it. We have an
active Commission here in Sonoma
County and a shout out to Jan
Blalock who just stepped down
after serving eight terms as
President, an amazingly gifted
woman.
December 14, 1985 – Wilma
Mankiller is sworn in as
principal chief of the Cherokee
Nation of Oklahoma – the first
woman in modern history to lead
a major Native American tribe.
Wilma
Pearl Mankiller (November
18, 1945 – April 6, 2010)
was a Native American
(Cherokee Nation) activist,
social worker, community
developer and the first
woman elected to serve as
Principal Chief of the
Cherokee Nation. Born in
Tahlequah, Oklahoma, she
lived on her family's
allotment in Adair County,
Oklahoma, until the age of
11, when her family
relocated to San Francisco
as part of a federal
government program to
urbanize Native Americans.
December 13, 1903 (1986) Ella
Baker, organizer, tried to
develop local leaders for civil
rights campaigns but found male
leaders in the NAACP quite
unwilling to delegate power,
helped lead the Southern
Christian Leadership Conference
until Dr. King took over, worked
with the Mississippi Freedom
Democratic Party.
The
Mississippi Freedom
Democratic Party (MFDP),
also referred to simply as
the Freedom Democratic
Party, was an American
political party that existed
in the state of Mississippi
from 1964 to 1968, during
the Civil Rights Movement.
Created as the partisan
political branch of the
Freedom Democratic
organization (a contemporary
Civil Rights activist group
aligned with the national
United States Democratic
Party), the party was
organized by African
Americans and White
Americans sympathetic to the
Civil Rights Movement from
Mississippi to challenge the
established power of the
state Mississippi Democratic
Party, which at the time
opposed the Civil Rights
Movement and allowed
participation only by
Whites, despite the fact
that African Americans made
up 40% of the state
population.
