When our representatives are making important
decisions that impact all of our lives I believe it is important to ask
one basic question before making
those decisions, Is this good for
the children? Just imagine what our world would be
like if that question was asked prior to making decisions about going to
war, the environment, education or healthcare.

1. Commentary by Elaine B. Holtz:
Happy Women’s History Month and
This year’s theme is, “Women Who
Advocate for Equity, Diversity,
and Inclusion,” To support that
message I am doing a special
show on Women in Radio and will
be focusing on four special
women of KBBF 89.1FM in Sonoma
County. Joining me in the studio:
Our
first guest is Alicia
Sanchez – President of the
Board of Directors for KBBF
89.1FM celebrating 51 years
on the air.
Lois
Perlman co-producer and host
of, Speaking of
Palestine, provides
news on the events affecting
Palestine, Mondays 4-5 pm.
Ana
Selgado, producer, and host
of, Compartiendo y
Aprendiendo, (Sharing
and Learning) is a live,
two-hour Spanish language
original public affairs
program that airs weekly and
discusses local, national,
and international news
items. Fridays 4-6 pm.
Alisha Valazquez – our
17-year-old co producer of
Simple-Mente
(Simply) with her mother
Wendy, who is here with us.
Thursdays at 7 - 7:30 pm.

2. Our
Guest, Alicia Sanchez,
shares her 13 years as a
volunteer, including service on the
Board of Directors of Radio
KBBF. Even during disasters, the
station has been open to serve
keep communications on safety
measures flowing especially to
the immigrant population working
in the agricultural fields.
Alicia encourages folks to contact
the station for programming
ideas, and most importantly
donate to help the station meet
its monthly expenses that can
run more than $10,000. The
station’s mission is to
broadcast information about
caring for the community,
justice, peace, and the
environment.

3. Our Guests
Lois Perlman, Ana Salgado, and
Alisha Valazquezshare
how they came to produce their
shows broadcast over Radio KBBF.
The
ongoing strife in Palestine
between the Zionist state of
Israel and native Palestinians
prompted Lois Perlman to
research the topic and meet with
Palestinian-born resident of our
county Theresa Mughannam. Their
interview on Women's Spaces
prompted our program director to
invite them to do a show. Lois
was raised Jewish, but feels it
is necessary for a Jewish voice
for peace to be in dialogue with
a non-Jewish voice for peace on
Speaking of Palestine,
and together bring out news so
often squelched by the major
media outlets.
Ana
Salgaldo immigrated from Oacaca,
Mexico. Ana began producing her
show Compartiendo y
Aprendiendo, (Sharing and
Learning), when she saw the need
provide a means for people,
especially immigrants, to have a
voice, to speak up about what is
bothering them or on their
heart. By speaking up solidarity
can be found with others, and we
can learn to be more respectful
of one another.
Alisha
Valazquez was concerned about
the violence in the high
schools, especially in
Montgomery High School. She
considers herself shy, but her
desire to hear other point of
views is so important that she
decided to co-produce her show
with her mother Wendy.
