Holtz Today we will be talking with our guest Karleen Arnink-Pate of Sonoma Media Investments about the Women in Conversation Series,  which on April 20 is presenting a program titled, “Call For Climate Action,” with speakers Winona LaDuke, Internationally renowned Native American activist and author of, “ To Be A Water Protector:, “The Rise of the Wiindigoo Slayers,” and Jamie Margolin Co-founder of the international youth climate justice movement, Zero Hour, and author of, “Youth to Power: Your Voice and How to Use It.”

2 Our guest, Karleen Arnink-Pate, shares her path from her original interest in fine arts to the business side of producing media and the arts. Since joining Sonoma Media Investments Karleen has been producing the Women in Conversation Series twice a year for seven years. She has learned firsthand how important the female perspective is in the business world, and wants to present fresh voices of women. On Wednesday the Series features Winona LaDuke, Native American activist who was a Green Party candidate for Vice-President, and Jamie Margolin, co-founder of Zero Hour, leader of youth climate marches and university student of Film and TV. The perspective of this youth environmental activist will be compared with that of an elder.  Karleen shares what is planned for Women in Conversation Series for July and in the Fall.

About our Guest: Karleen Arnink-Pate is the Chief Revenue Officer for locally owned Sonoma Media Investments, publishers of the Press Democrat, Sonoma County Gazette, and a variety of other brands found online and in print. Previously Karleen served as the Vice President of Strategic Revenue at the San Francisco Chronicle and sfgate.com/Hearst, and she served the Hawaii and Nevada markets as Advertising Director for Gannett Company (publishers of USA Today and over one hundred Print, Digital and Television brands nationwide).
Recognized as an industry leader, Karleen was a national Folio “Top Women in Media 2019” Honoree, in the Change Maker category & described as “a woman who has successfully altered the course of their brand or the industry for the better.” She founded the popular Sonoma County Women in Conversation speaker series and serves on the board of Sonoma County CASA and the Petaluma Art Center and on the Steering Committee for United Way, Women United.

Herstory Birthdays:

April 16, 1921 (2003) – Marie Maynard Daly, biochemist and the first African American woman in the United States to earn a Ph.D. in chemistry (1947).

April 16, 1971 (1995) – Selena Quintanilla Perez, singer who popularized the Tejano sound of Mexico in the 1990s, turned to original fashion boutique design, Gov. Bush (TX) declared April 16 Selena Day.

April 18, 1898 (1990) – Ruth Bunzel, anthropologist, with Ruth Benedict studied the art and culture of southwest Native American women starting in 1924, learned Zuni language, pottery and sewing to understand and preserve the culture.
