When our representatives are making important
decisions that impact all of our lives I believe it is important to ask
one basic question before making
those decisions, Is this good for
the children? Just imagine what our world would be
like if that question was asked prior to making decisions about going to
war, the environment, education or healthcare.

1. Commentary
by our host Elaine B. Holtz: I have
a special guest for this show. Joining me in the on the
phone from Independence, VA Joyce Rouse aka Earth Mama.
“Earth Mama” uses earth wisdom, music, and laughter to
spread the message that the earth is a “Mama” for all of
us. Her programs are enjoyed by audiences of all ages
and interests, twining together spirituality, education,
and entertainment, in celebration with the earth. One of
my favorite songs by Earth Mama which I play often,
Standing on the Shoulders, which reminds us of
those who have laid the foundations for all of us.
Talk about Standing on The Shoulders! Thursday,
August 26, was Women’s Equality Day and the 101st
anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the US
Constitution giving women the right to vote. To honor
this the Board of Supervisors of The County of Sonoma,
State of California, issued a Gold Resolution to the
National Organization for Women (NOW) for its 2020
Woman's Suffrage Calendar celebrating the centennial of
the 19th amendment and declared the Calendar to be an
historic document. The Sonoma County Chapter hosted a great Zoom
meeting to celebrate and had some of the women movers
and shakers in the community present to honor this
event. Many of the presenters were in the calendar and,
as a special treat, Supervisor Lynda Hopkins,
representing the 5th District of Sonoma County, not only
spearheaded the
Gold Resolution but honored the group by
reading it. As I listened, I just cried it was so
beautiful to hear the women of our county, NOW and this
historic calendar being recognized. You can listen to
the whole presentation on the
Facebook page of Sonoma County NOW Chapter. It
was inspiring. You can see and read the Gold Resolution

On Saturday Ken and I visited the Petaluma Historical
Museum's Woman's Suffrage Display – a shout out to Paula
Freund for doing such a great job developing the exhibit
and for the wonderful tour and history lesson. Sadly,
this was the last tour of the exhibit.

2. Our
guest,Joyce Rouse,
recorded her song Standing on the Shoulders in
1966 in Nashville. This song would was later included in
anthologies celebrating the Centennial of Women's
Suffrage. Joyce would sing before kids and they
remembered her for her song Earth Mama, and so
the moniker stuck. Earth Mama's mission
is for her songs to foster healing of our relationship
to Mama Earth, the rising of the Divine Feminine and
dismanteling of patriarchy, finding balance in all we
use and in the yin and yang, the feminine and masculine.
Earth Mama's latest album released this year in called
Loving Kindness, something the political fomentations
and the pandeminc certainly call for. We play one song
from that album called The Great Vision. The
interview completes with the
song Herstory from the album Herstory, to keep the celebration of
the Centennial of Women's Suffrage alive.
About our Guest:Joyce

lyrics and her works have been featured in books,
articles and textbooks worldwide.
As Earth Mama she has fourteen albums to her credit,
including the recent HerStory album and just released
Loving Kindness CD, consisting of interfaith
songs of contemplation and celebration for a traumatized
world much in need of Loving Kindness.
