Humans love to celebrate and occasionally, I want to check up and see what is being celebrated on the day of the show, today it is January 18, and we are celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday but we are also celebrating Winnie the Pooh Day which I found interesting since this is one of my favorite books, I loved to read to my daughter Susan. I found these suggestions on how to celebrate the day and with the pandemic and so many children at home I thought it would be fun to mention the Ways to Celebrate Winnie the Pooh Day that I found plus provide some history I found which I thought would be of interest.
Winnipeg, or Winnie, (1914 – 12 May 1934) was the name given to a female black bear that lived at London Zoo from 1915 until her death in 1934. Rescued by cavalry veterinarian Harry Colebourn, Winnie is best-remembered for inspiring A. A. Milne and E. H. Shepard's character, Winnie-the-Pooh.
Like Colebourn, A.A. Milne had served in World War I, and the idyllic setting of the 100-Acre Wood was a welcome sanctuary from the horrors of the Western Front that remained fresh in his mind and those of many readers in the 1920s. The Hundred Acre Wood of the Winnie-the-Pooh stories is Five Hundred Acre Wood in Ashdown Forest in East Sussex, England, where the Winnie-the-Pooh stories were set.

Pat describes the Democratic Party Central Commitee of Sonoma County and the biennial election of Assembly District Delegates now in progress across the state of California.

About our Guest: Pat Sabo is a resident of Sonoma County since 1973. She received her teaching credential from SSU in 1976 and taught mathematics in the Healdsburg Unified School District. She served as President and Bargaining Chair for her local teacher’s union and was active at the regional and statewide level with CTA, working on major statewide campaigns and propositions. After her retirement she helped a former student run for the CA State Senate. after his election she worked part time as a district representative in his Santa Rosa office and she retired in 2019. She began working with the Democratic Central Committee in 2002 took a few years off after returning in 2014 she became the party chair in February 2019.

January 22, 1973, Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113, was a landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in which the Court ruled that the Constitution of the United States protects a pregnant woman's liberty to choose to have an abortion without excessive government restriction.

Herstory Birthdays:

January 17, 1939 – Martha Cotera, pioneering Chicana feminist, author of two seminal texts Diosa y Hembra and Chicana Feminist, founding member Raza Unida Party in Texas (1969), one of the mothers of Chicana Feminism.

January 19, 1905 (1995) – Oveta Culp Hobby, second women in the U.S. Cabinet (20 years after Frances Perkins), first Secretary of the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (1953), awarded the Distinguished Medal of Service for her work as Director of the Women’s Army Corps (1945).

January 20, 1872 (1957) – Julia Morgan, first licensed female architect in California, innovative architect of Hearst Castle and over 700 other buildings.

January 21, 1905 (1996) – Agnes Mongan, published material on French artists despite restrictions on her movements because she was a woman, director at Harvard’s Fogg Art Museum (1969-71), mentored many female scholars.
