Before Deciding

When our representatives are making important decisions that impact all of our lives I believe it is important to ask one basic question before making
those decisions,
Is this good for
the children?

Just imagine what our world would be like if that question was asked prior to making decisions about going to war, the environment, education or healthcare.

1. Elaine B. Holtz presents her speech that she made before her graduating class at Sonoma State.  Elaine was one of the pioneering students in the new Women's Studies program, and even taught a course Survival as a Mother, since so many returning students, like her, were single mothers. Elaine describes some of the obstacles she had to overcome, including the ones of her own making, in reaching her academic goal. The recording of the speech was discovered in the Sonoma State University archives.

About: Elaine B. Holtz is the Host and Co-producer of Women's Spaces.

Featured Guest:

2. Janeen Murray shares her path to leading GoLocal, whose mission it is to strengthen the local economy.  Janeen mentions some of the benefits, not only locally owned businesses but to the community with their support of local non-profits.  She explains why your banking choice makes a huge impact on the local economy, and why locally owned banks or credit unions are your best choice.  Elaine describes how much of the NOW checking account with was emptied by fraudulent transactions in the summer, but because the Credit Union belonged to GoLocal, Elaine, as President of NOW, was able to talk directly to the President who assured her that NOW would not be liable and the money was restored.

About our Guest: Janeen Murray draws professional experience from both the business sector and the educational arena. Starting out as a junior high and high school teacher in Sonoma County public schools, she inspired a commitment to learning and sustainability in our youth. For the next decade she managed Operations and Marketing at two Sonoma County locally owned companies. Logging almost 10 years as GO LOCAL's Co-Manager and Board Member, she now serves as Executive Director. Also, Manager of Sustaining Technologies, she works both organizations in tandem to develop programs and marketing consulting for locally owned businesses. You may also come across her wailing on her accordion around the county with The Hubbub Club street band.

Measure P is on the November ballot and is designed to increase the ability for the IOLERO (Independent Office of Law Enforcement Review and Outreach) to provide transparent and effective oversight of our Sheriff department. IOLERO was established in 2016 as a result of community outrage after 13-year-old Andy Lopez was gunned down by Deputy Sheriff Gelhaus. This past year has shown us repeatedly why, more than ever, we need independent, effective oversight of the Sheriff. Leading the Discussion is Colleen O'Neal and John Mutz (bios below). There will be a forum for Community Q&A, as well as performances by local artists Bruce Speaks, The Crux, Krysta Cook, Eki Shola and Sierra Camille.
