1. Pat
Sabo shares her early attraction to political campaigns as
a 6-year old enthused by seeing the Democratic Party Convention
nominate Adlai Stevenson in 1956 and promptly making a sign to march
up and down her neighborhood street. Now as a retired teacher and
coach from Healdsburg High School, Pat is on the County
Central Committee for the Democratic Party, which means also
participation at the Party's State Central Committee. Pat reveals
how citizens in the county who registered as affiliated with the
Democratic Party can volunteer for various campaign acitivities like
postcard writing and telephoning, as well as apply for a seat on the
County Central Committee or for a seat on their Assembly District
Central Committee per the
Bylaws
of the California Democratic Party. Monthly dinner meetings and special events
offer opportunities for networking and bringing up issues that may
require legislation.
About our Guest: Pat Sabo
has been a resident of Sonoma County since 1973and received her
teaching credential from SSU in 1976. She taught mathematics in the
Healdsburg Unified School District. until her retirement in 2013.
While teaching she became active in ther local Teacher’s union,
serving as President and Bargaining Chair for her local teachers
union and was active at the regional and statewide level with CTA
and worked on major statewide campaigns and propositions. After her
retirement and helping a former student run for the CA State Senate
after his election she worked part time as a district representative
in his Santa Rosa office and she retired in 2019. She began working
with the Central Committee in 2002-2008 then from 2014 and became
party chair in February 2019.

Harlotte Vandine Forten, Sr: (1785 – 1884)
An abolitionist and suffragist, Charlotte Forten came to
Washington, D. C. in the late 1870s with her husband, James
Forten, a Black abolitionist. Charlotte worked in the government
and taught school. She had been a founder and member of the
interracial Philadelphia Female Anti-Slavery Society, many of
whose members became active in the women’s rights movement.
Margaretta Forten (1806 -1875):
Margaretta was an educator and abolitionist. She and her mother,
Charlotte Forten ,and her sister, Harriet, were founders and
members of the interracial Philadelphia Female Anti-Slavery
Society. The Forten sisters had never been enslaved.
